How can I tell if a bowl is made of quality crystal?
I was given a crystal bowl from an aquaintance of mine who's father collected them until he passed away. She told me he had so many pieces that couldn't keep them all and was giving them away to some of her friends.
The bowl has a marking on the bottom is of an eight point star. This same design is also used in the decorative finish on the outside of the bowl. It's really heavy and I don't see any bubbles so I'm assuming that it is crystal. I read that if it's real crystal it won't break if dropped, but I really don't want to try this out.
How can I tell if this is a good quality crystal and how much it could be worth?

Good crystal glass usually has a manufacturers name etched somewhere at the base, Stuart is one example and if you flick the rim with your finger it should give a nice ringing sound but, try to get it valued by a jewelry store or somewhere thats sells quality crystal.
